Kathmandu, 26 January : The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and High Representative for the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu paid a courtesy call on Right Honourable Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today.
During the call on the Right Honourable Prime Minister laid emphasis on dialogue between the warring parties for upholding world peace. “Many areas of the world are still in very sensitive condition. Incidents including Russia-Ukraine war and Israel and Hamas war have added challenges to the global peace. But we stress on seeking the solution to conflicts through dialogue,” he said.
The Right Honourble PM recalled Nepal’s remarkable role in different international fora, including the United Nations, for the establishment of peace in the world. Talking about the role played by Nepal from the position of leader of the least developed countries in the UN General Assembly, he underscored that Nepal would always support in the UN’s efforts for establishing peace and play a leading role for the world peace.
Under Secretary-General and the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Nakamitsu, said the office of the South Asia Centre on Disarmament Affairs has been set up in Nepal and the expectation is that Nepal will become a centre of peace in the South Asia region. She also praised the role Nepal has been playing in the UN peacekeeping missions as the second-largest troops contributing nation.
Present on the occasion were UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, Hanna Singer, the foreign affairs advisor to the Prime Minister, Rupak Sapkota and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
